If yer evah' DownEast way, in Boothbay Harbah', I highly recommend a visit to Lori and Noel, at Mama D's. Order up a Mama D's special sandwich. An' tell 'em Ah sent ya! Mama D's is one of those great little year round places in Boothbay Harbor, where you can chat with the owner or a neighbor, enjoy a wide variety of coffee based drinks, and have a breakfast or lunch that will fill you perfectly, while tantalizing your taste buds. My personal favorite is, of course, the Mama D's special breakfast sandwich. Combine an egg, jack cheese, sausage on a muffin and you have a sandwich that will get you started in the morning! While you are at it, you can also check out some beautiful pieces of arts and crafts from local artisans. Not your average church craft show stuff but beautiful and artfully crafted pieces of jewelry, clothing, paintings and photographs, inspired by or about the area. Although recently expanded, the cafe is small and there is often a short but friendly wait for a table. In the summer time, the porch out back is great for sitting under the trees and awnings. And, any time of year, you can sit in rocking chairs on the front porch and watch the world slowly pass in front of you.

A wonderful place to stop for breakfast! I loved their blueberry waffles, and my husband and I both loved the scones (especially the oatmeal-walnut). The restaurant itself is cheerful and pleasant, and the staff was very attentive.

Are you visiting Boothbay Harbor? Mama D's is the local "go to" place for breakfast or coffee, with family, friends or for a meeting. The ambience is charming. The coffee is good. The food is delicious. The service is friendly.

Beware if you go for lunch - service is SLOW. The waitress we had was very unfriendly and didn't come back for 20 minutes to check on us or fill our water while the kitchen made a roast beef sandwich. For 20 minutes. And there was one other customer in the place with lots of staff. We finally called over a very nice blonde waitress who checked on our order and refilled our drinks. Once our food came out we had been waiting 30 minutes for a cold sandwich and microwaved pie. No "Sorry for the wait" or anything. I've been in before for lunch with similar problems. Expensive, mediocre food. If you must go, make sure you get the nice blonde waitress at least.

Awesome Mama D's breakfast sandwich! Super fresh ingredients and unique application of the jalapeno peppers. Nice people. Eat on the porch. Very nice.

What a great place for breakfast! Each of us had waffles -- we couldn't decide whether to have them with blueberries or raspberries, so we asked to have both. They were super! It was busy, so it took a while for a table, but we helped ourselves to cups of coffee and enjoyed the short wait. Mama D's is cute restaurant, with nice area for outside service. Inside, it's bigger than it looks from the street. There's plenty of parking in the back.

Parking in the back but you don't need to drive there. You can walk-in from Union Street. Self serve coffee is a good idea. Just pick up a cup and drink it. No reason to wait. We picked a spot and sat down, ordered breakfast, and before we knew it we had some food. My wife had the southern omelette and I ordered the Spanish one. Outstanding! The cook really knows what she's doing! Best omelette I've ever had. Oatmeal was good too. This is now my favorite breakfast spot!

In search of good coffee, my husband and I stopped here. We didn't order any food, which did look very good, but the coffee we got was really disappointing. We ordered iced Americanos to go. The espresso we were given came from a jug that had been pre-made and was in a fridge. Not good. What a bummer when we had heard this place was a hit...

Went on Labor Day weekend and waited 50 minutes for a waffle and eggs. When the waffle came it was cold, my husband liked his eggs, bacon and toast. However the waitress stepped on our (very close to me) dog (fellow patrons commented how easily she could have walked around him... Don't work at a dog friendly restaurant if you're not dog friendly)

Horrible service. I liked the food but everything was very slow and they charged us for something we didn't get.

CASH! Bring cash! Screaming it out first since I didn't see mention of it before I was surprised at payment time. As for the food ... the spicy breakfast sandwich w/ sausage was quite good, 4+ stars. Wife enjoyed the egg and cheese sandwich on croissant, estimated 4+stars as well (but I didn't try it). The waffle was 3 stars, just okay but nothing special. Bacon strips were a disappointing 2 stars - cold from the start, wafer thin and not crispy. Espresso tasted fine but my order of "4 shots with just a tiny, tiny splash of milk and foam" came out in a large mug with approx 8 oz of effing milk. You consider that a splash of milk? If I wanted a latte, I'd have ordered one, dammit. Toddler factor: No high chairs! Only booster seats available. No kid-specific breakfast menu but decent overall variety so you should be able to find something your kid will eat.

Have been here a few times for lunch over the years. Service is always slow and the server we had at our most recent visit was unfriendly and unprofessional. The salad is 99% greens and even the quiche "with a side salad" was almost all greens with a tiny piece of quiche.

We went here for breakfast after hearing about the spicy breakfast sandwiches with sausage, and weren't disappointed. This is a quirky, homey little joint (cash only!) with self-serve coffee and a welcoming atmosphere, and we were seated promptly on the front porch. Service was great, and we were in and out after enjoying coffee, two awesome sandwiches, and a side of bacon and home fries...for $20! Good, homestyle food and a friendly staff. We will definitely be back.

we are fortunate enough to be able to summer in boothbay and I had not been to Mama D's for a while. And it will be a while before i go again this is one of the places I just don't understand how it gets good reviews. It's alway takes a long time to get your food and the food is just OK at best. service is ok sometime but nothing much I think the only reason it stays busy is there are very few breakfast options in area. Would not recommend

Our favorite breakfast spot in Boothbay Harbor! Pour your own bottomless dark roast coffee, sit on the front porch amid beautiful flower boxes admiring the head of the harbor, and enjoy a terrific Mama D's breakfast sandwich -- scrambled egg, sausage patty and jalapeños on a buttered English muffin! Wakes your mouth up yummy! Waitstaff is efficient and friendly and breakfast choices are consistently excellent. Twenty bucks for two including tip gets you the best breakfast experience in town!

A true Mom & Pop home style diner. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Reasonably priced food, especially for a tourist town, outstanding self-serve coffee, delicious food of good proportions. Cash only.

Bring cash!!!! Bring cash!!!!! They need the seating to be more organized ... waited 10mins to get menu. I hate the self serve coffee.

Relatively small place with seating in odd places - like dining in your grandma's house. I'm not a fan of the miscellaneous items everywhere (lots of dust collectors), but the place was clean. Coffee is self serve. The breakfast menu is one page, and that's all they serve in the morning (no lunch items available). There are specials, but I didn't see them until too late and the sweet waitress failed to point them out to us. My wife ordered the blueberry waffles, made fresh, and she enjoyed them. The warm maple syrup was served a bit too early, and it wasn't warm when the waffles came; but points for the effort. Omelette with veggies was large and fluffy, but the veggies seemed a bit too overcooked. They need to retain crispness in order to add the necessary texture to the dish. Biscuit was tasty, but I'm not sure they are baked here. Service was very friendly, despite loads of rules posted everywhere (no cell phones, cash only, no changing the specials, etc). While this place is certainly "good," it's not as amazing as other Yelper's suggest. Maine has some amazing breakfast places, and Mama D's is adequate but definitely second tier.

Mama D's special blend is the best coffee on the Harbor. Great atmosphere, good service and the blueberry coffee cake was scrumptious.

Ah, my favorite breakfast nook in Boothbay. Good food, incredibly nice people!!!!!!! The breakfast specials are always great (while they last they do run out rather quickly). I do miss Barkley, he was the owners Black Lab who would roam around the Cafe and do tricks for dog treats. He was sort of a Boothbay Institution until he passed in March of 2009. He was one of the nicest dogs I have ever come across.

Mama D's was a really cute place. The menu was pretty small w/mostly baked goods , which, by the way were really fresh and tasty. The decor was very country and homey. We got bagel breakfast sandwiches which you can't really mess up. My only complaint was that they ran out of coffee even after I pointed out i used the last of the light roast and that the coffee pot was empty. They didn't make anymore. I went back about 20 minutes later to get a refill (self-service) but they hadn't bothered to brew any. Our waitress Emily was very sweet and professional.

What a great find. LOVED this place. Cozy, warm, friendly and the food was incredible. Just after finishing breakfast at Mama D's, my husband suggested coming back for lunch. That's how great it is!

Egg sandwich was cooked to perfection. Blueberry cake was served with whipped cream was delicious and the quiche Lorraine was perfectly flaky and moist.

I was in Boothbay Harbor for a visit over the 4th of July. Mama D's was walking distance from the house. The food was good. I HAD to take stars off for service, though. We walked in and stood awkwardly in the entry area. There was no sign saying "please seat yourself." No sign is fine, there may not have been room...but train your staff to meet/greet folks and let them know! I don't care how busy it is, a "hey, just grab a seat anywhere" as you rush by would have been FINE. But no, all servers were heads down, with no smiles and nary an acknowledgement that we were there, looking lost and hungry. They even had to squeeze past us standing there but yet no interactions whatsoever. So we finally got a curt "you find your own seat!" after we wave at someone (after the 4th wave she finally stopped looking around us and asked if we needed something). At this point, all I want is some coffee! We find a seat in the rear room to the right and see a room full of folks. Not one of the tables has food so we are like "its gonna be a wait." No problem! I just want some coffee! No one comes by to say "can I get you a cup of coffee while you wait?" We flag down the gal assigned to that room and she waves us off for almost 15 minutes saying "sorry, busy." Not even a smile! Yikes! We almost walked out then, but I wanted to try this well-reviewed place! Finally, we ask her as she is walking by "can we get a coffee?" She literally huffs at us and goes (in a tone like she was REALLY annoyed!) "it is serve yourself coffee!" Sorry! How would we have known that?!?!?! NO ONE TALKS TO YOU AND LETS YOU KNOW! gah! OK, so i take a deep breath and happily wander around looking for the serve yourself station as she never bothered to let us know WHERE it was. Now, I worked as a supervisor in food service for a decade. This is rudimentary stuff! Greet and serve. Answer questions. Try not to act like the customer is the reason you are in a bad mood. Made me sad. I was so excited to be there and felt guilty, like I was bothering her for asking her how to get a cup of coffee. Anyway, the coffee was really good! And i even got a Far Side mug that made me laugh. OK, so it took 10 minutes to be told how to sit. Another 15 to be told how to get a coffee. Now, we peruse the menu and are ready to go. We note that a family of 5 who were already seated when we got here were still sitting there with no beverages and food, just to our left. The kids were squirming and hungry and dad looked not-so-happy. Then, she comes in and takes the orders of all 3 of the other tables except ours and the family. And they ALL had come in AFTER us! WTF?!?!?!?!?! Whatever. Deep breaths. Then, she comes over to US! We were like, "we are starved but this family was here before us. Take their order first!" She seems confused. I don't' get it! Isn't that kind of basic waitress stuff?!?!?! So, it's another 15 minutes before she takes our order. I ordered an omelet with sausage, peppers and onion and cheddar jack cheese. When it came out 20 minutes later, it was american cheese and no peppers. I was mystified at this point and just shut up and ate it. I am including detail so perhaps if the management cares about service and training, that they can ensure that the lovely young gals who were assigned to the rooms, are aware of the basics of customer service. OK, so the second visit. We didn't feel up to trying the sit-down service again so we called in and ordered breakfast sandwiches to go. I showed up and walked in to the counter and stood there. Again. Not one person smiled at me or asked me what they could do for me. I stood there in a largely empty room and looked/felt uncomfortable. I smiled and peered at every person who walked by and no one looked at me, let alone asked if they could help. GAH! A woman whom i assume was Mama D came out to hug the regulars and she made eye contact with me and kept going. I was still standing in the same spot, looking lost when she came out again. She obviously wasn't concerned cuz she didn't say a word to me or worry about me looking unhappy. I watched a trainee take an order for an iced coffee to go for a departing sit-down regular. A young man named scooter or something (with short neon red hair) rudely told her to 'figure it out' as he rang someone up. He then literally said "I am SO AWESOME!" as he worked behind the counter, carefully ignoring me and the other customer. He rolled his eyes as he turned away after the statement to the trainee, in full view of the customers. She fumbled as the customer and I looked on. Finally, an older gentleman with a beard came over and helped her out in a very friendly, helpful and professional manner. Then, like a god, he looked at me (!) and asked if I needed help (!!). God Bless you. I got my now-cold sandwiches and ordered a couple iced coffee's. HE had WONDERUL customer service and I thanked him profusely. CLONE HIM, MAMA D's!

I loved the warm, cluttered atmosphere. Gave people plenty to talk about and see. The coffee is serve yourself and when we went there were about 5 different types of coffee along with cream, milk, and sugar. I ordered the loaded belgian waffle with strawberries and a biscuit on the side. The waffle was delicious but the buttery biscuit was amazing, especially lathered with the homemade strawberry jam. Everything was reasonably priced. I really really want to go back tomorrow morning!!

My favorite breakfast in Boothbay Harbor. Incredibly warm, inviting, and friendly atmosphere where we were basically treated like family. Ever-changing and tasty breakfast specials, fantastic omelettes, and a killer breakfast sandwich (I recommend egg, cheese, spinach, mushroom, and tomato). Big selection of coffees as well. I will miss this place dearly.

it was agreed and decided to keep this lunch a little low key, in order to focus on the shopping and excursions that were ahead. thus, heavy food was not on this agenda. we happened upon a quaint café that had exactly what we were seeking, and the food turned out better than expected. 3-cheese panini was delicious (me), even though cheese is not a light product. split pea soup and salad kept everyone else busy and happy with their selection. ROOTBEER! they served rootbeer, granted it was not diet rootbeer, but at least it met me half way. seating indoors carries little gifts for your viewing or buying pleasure and if the day permits, outdoor seating is available. the caddy girls serving and dishing the food were a bit much, but hey, if they were having a good time, then nothing else really matters. my only suggestion is to provide more than skim or soy milk for mochas, lattes, etc. my mocha tastes better with low-fat milk. skim milk doesn't do much but keep such a deep beverage from becoming one. i am realizing side dishes in Maine are carrots, lots of carrots. overall, we were happy with the cheap prices, clean environment, and friendly staff.

this place is in a stunning location near the end of the bay just far enough from the center of town to be relaxing. rocking chairs on the front porch overlooking the water first caught our eye, but it is a wonderful little place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or lunch. the main room is reminiscent of an old-fashioned general store, but the menu is fresh featuring locally brewed coffee with a free refill! over the memorial day weekend, i chose the southern omelet for a late morning meal, while my companion ordered the veggie. both arrived promptly, warm with a perfect balance of ingredients, and two slices of multi grain bread. although mama d's offers several small intimate dining rooms, we opted to enjoy the warm breeze on the sun-dappled rear deck beneath the oak and maples. the wait staff was friendly and attentive, checking in without seeming patronizing. the cars in the lot hailed from five different states including maine, so this place caters to tourists, summer people and locals alike. definitely worth a return visit!
